Industry veteran bolsters technology company board
An industry veteran with more than 35 years of broad experience commercializing machine vision, robotics and 3D measurement products, West is poised to help Coherix continue to expand the use of its technology solutions into sophisticated manufacturing processes.
“We are extremely pleased to have Jim join our board,” said Dwight Carlson, CEO and chairman of Coherix, Inc. “His extensive experience in 3D imaging, robotics and work within the automotive industry will be a tremendous source of expert insight into leveraging technology to improve manufacturing for global suppliers.”
A holder of 11 patents, West attended the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering. He also was awarded an MS in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois Coordinated Science Laboratory where he focused on machine vision, robotics and artificial intelligence. His professional life includes co-founding Perceptron, and serving as CTO at FARO Technologies, VP of Engineering at SMX and founder of the Technology Consulting Network, a consultancy helping companies achieve success developing optical, electronic and mechanical devices. In addition, West is the founder and past president of The Machine Vision Association and former Director of both Robotics International and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
“I am impressed with the sophistication of the technology at Coherix, the caliber of the workforce and immense potential this company has in serving global manufacturers,” said West. “3D machine vision solutions are a boon to precision manufacturing and the Coherix technology is unparalleled in giving manufacturers a significant edge in eliminating errors, reducing waste and improving the quality of sophisticated products.”
