New Tru3D™ For Piston Pin CLR Clip Inspection Begins War on Walk Homes

Ann Arbor, Michigan, October 30, 2012 — Coherix®, a leader in advanced Robust3D Measurement and Inspection solutions for manufacturing, announces the “War on Walk Homes” with the release of Tru3D™ for Piston Pin Cir-Clip inspection.

“Quality spills are never good no matter what industry you are in”, said Don Manfredi, Vice President of Automotive “however, in powertrain assembly they can sometimes be catastrophic. The industry term we use is “walk home” for a powertrain part that fails in the field, because your car stops running and you walk home. At Coherix we are developing solutions to fight a War on Walk Homes. Tru3D™ for piston pin cir-clips is the first of many applications we will be releasing to help our customers eliminate quality spills that lead to walk homes.”

Tru3D™ for cir-clips is the first full 3D in-line assembly verification system with no moving parts. The first in-line application inspecting piston pin circlips is already installed and in full production at a large local automotive customer. The system checks for clip presence, full seating, position, double clips as well verifying the correct pin is installed. So far, the 3D data has led to an error proofing solution that is more robust, simpler to use, and lower cost to own than conventional methods. Coherix® plans to release other applications for Tru3D™ to continue to fight the War on Walk Homes.
