New Robust3D™ Volume Measurement Solution Released for Auto Customers

Ann Arbor, Michigan, May 16, 2017Coherix, Inc., a global leader in Three-Dimensional (3D) Machine Vision, today announced the official release of Robust3D volume measurement solution, a new Robust3D solution for inline high-speed precision measurement in the automotive industry.

Whether it’s a piston bowl or a gasoline engine combustion chamber, the Robust3D volume measurement solution leverages Coherix proprietary Tru3D™ sensor to establish a 3D “as-built” model of the volume area (between the top rim and the wavy bowl surface for diesel pistons, or the engine head deck face and the wavy combustion chamber surface for gas engine heads), and then precisely measure the volume against part tolerance. The solution is also capable of profile measurement on the bowl surface, which is the fundamental contributor to bowl volume variation.

“This Robust3D solution for volume measurement and profile measurement is completely inline and 100% reliable. Compared with traditional methods, it’s fast and takes up very little floor space. The 3D data can be archived for 3D traceability in the future.” said Dwight Carlson, CEO of Coherix.  “Customers can trust in this solution to determine their manufacturing variation to ensure their manufacturing quality.”

So far, Coherix inline Robust3D product line has a series of solutions besides volume measurement, such as piston assembly verification, rolling finger follower assembly inspection, valve assembly verification, and flexible end-of-line inspection, to meet the error proofing needs of the automotive industry.
